Did the CW sabotage ‘Superman and Lois’? I don’t know if it was done on purpose but I’m not sure how they explain putting a consistently popular TV show, five weeks in a row, on hiatus. ‘Superman and Lois’returned on May 18th to a tune of 724 million viewers which is a drop of 500 million viewers from episode five which saw 1.237 million viewers. That’s devastating. ‘Superman and Lois’, pre hiatus, was a hit for the CW. It has great character development thus far, and has no signs of identity politics(there was a small one in the latest episode but I will get to that later on). I understand that the CW stated it was due to Covid-19, but then why not just wait to premiere the show until you could release all episodes without any interruptions. Instead, they made the brilliant decision of putting it on hiatus for seven weeks with ‘Supergirl’ filling in at Superman and Lois’ time slot. ‘Supergirl’, whose woke politics are in your face episode to episode, and whose ratings have consistently tanked season to season and episode to episode, is a mood killer that folks probably just said…no thanks! Season six episode seven, of ‘Supergirl’, saw an abysmal 4.71 million viewers. That’s getting into ‘Batwoman’ territory.
Walker Would Have Been a Wiser Choice for ‘Superman and Lois’ Time Slot
How the CW is surviving with the poor ratings of most of their superhero shows is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. ‘Superman and Lois’ Debuted at 1.745 million viewers and was consistently at 1.2 million with every episode thereafter. Then, Supergirl comes in as a replacement while Superman and Lois are on hiatus and, with its last season shenanigans, drops 500,000 viewers in a blink of an eye. The CW should have seen this and placed their hit show ‘Walker’ into ‘Superman and Lois’ time slot and let Supergirl
continue in its downward trajectory in an obscurer time slot. At least ‘Walker’, starring Jared Padalecki from ‘Supernatural’, is holding its own with its audience. ‘Walker’ debuted at a whopping 2.43 million viewers and has consistently hovered around the 1 million viewer range since. ‘Superman and Lois’ would have had a chance of keeping more of its audience pre hiatus had the CW kept its 18-49 demo group interested. The CW has Deeper Problems
The CW has an even deeper problem as it doesn’t have any show right now that’s breaking a million viewers. That’s pathetic but not surprising given the CW’s agenda when it comes to preaching to us about representation, inclusion, and diversity. It’s a formula that doesn’t work and the evidence is in the ratings week after week for the CW. So, is the CW sabotaging ‘Superman and Lois’. I hope not and hope it’s just a result of mismanagement on their part. Will ‘Superman and Lois’ gain their audience back or will it fail as a result of the CW’s poor management of a show that was a hit right out of the gate. Let’s hope it’s the former, as I for one, forgot it was on this week and didn’t want to make the mistake of tuning into ‘Supergirl’. Let us also hope that ‘Superman and Lois’ stay out of the woke minefield and don’t destroy a very promising representation of a favorite comic book character. This past week’s episode had a very tiny trip into that arena and I hope it was the last. You’ll know what I mean if you watch the part in episode six where Luthor and Lois go to investigate the mines. It was absolutely unnecessary and forced by the writers. I just hope it’s not a foreshadowing of more to come. Finally, I have to believe that some of the fans will come back and ‘Superman and Lois’ will be at that top spot once again.
