Superman and Lois…a Breath of Fresh Air

Superman and Lois…a breath of fresh air?  Yes, indeed a breath of fresh air.   In a politically woke climate such is the CW, this show, so far, has not disappointed and exceeded all expectations.  When I first heard about this show I was not excited.  It was a CW show after all and the CW has a way of letting its fans down and destroying much loved characters.  Superman, played by Tyler Hoechlin, first made his appearance in Supergirl.  And, oh my god, what a disappointment that was.  The costume was weak, and it portrayed a very weak and cucked Superman.  So, I was not thrilled in the least at what the CW was going to deliver us.

Past shows gave us a lot of promise in the beginning

If you look at their past shows, you will see a lot of promise in the very beginning and then a complete and catastrophic let down.  “The bait and Switch” that we have all come to expect from the CW.  Arrow was such a great show its first few seasons and then towards the end of season 3 and the beginning of season 4 became this soap opera where Arrow became a weak and inferior shadow of his former self.  Then there was the Flash.  The Flash debuted in 2015 at the start of Arrows 3rd season.  That was a great time to be around superheroes.  The mid season crossover between Flash and Arrow fighting against the Reverse Flash and between each other made each shows’ seasons worth the price of admission.  Man, that first season was absolutely amazing.  It’s how I got my son to start watching these shows with me.  The Flash, because of that first season, became his favorite superhero.  But, again, the CW decided that it needed to go woke.  We stopped watching and walked away after drudging through a season 5 that saw an extremely diminished Flash/Barry Allen.  Season 5 should have been called the

Nora and Iris hour as Barry/Flash was just in it as decoration in a costume that was laughable.

The CW’s bait and switch

Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black lightning soon followed with the CW following the same formula of bait and switch.  Grab the diehard fans in the first season with some, dedicated to the comic lore episodes, and then beat the fans over the head with wokeness messaging and lecturing.  This is a formula that proved, with each new season, what a failure that formula is.  If you look at the ratings of each one of these shows year to year, you will see a decline in viewership that should have told the CW that their formula wasn’t working.  You can look at a ratings graph here from ratingraph.com that will show you the decline year after year of their highest rated superhero show The Flash.  But, it’s all about the message with CW and damn the ratings and the money.  They have gone full bore into their left political agenda by not even hiding it anymore with the debut of their latest CW superhero with Batwoman in 2019.

Superman and Lois are a breath of fresh air

That is why I think Superman and Lois are a breath of fresh air.  In their first five episodes they have delivered a show that reveres the character of Superman to its fans.  Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman is a completely different Superman than the one in Supergirl.  His costume is amazing and he actually looks like a formidable Superman.

And the homage, in the first episode, that the CW pays to the character of Superman is so perfect that I didn’t believe I was actually watching a CW superhero show.  Not only that, they have given us characters in Lois and the two sons that feel real and grounded.  They all have real problems that we can all relate to at any stage of our lives.  Plus, we have real storytelling that keeps you engaged.  Superman and Lois hasn’t gone woke…yet.  I’m still waiting for the bait and switch.  I mean after all, it is the CW.

Superman and Lois haven’t succumbed to the politics of the day

But, so far, it has been a solid show that has not succumbed to the politics of the day.  An example of that, is with the villains that are portrayed in the show.  Captain Luthor is a character from a different Earth who comes to this Earth to destroy its Superman.  On Captain Luthor’s Earth, Superman was evil and he believes that this Earth’s Superman will end up the same way.  We also find out that Captain Luthor’s Superman killed his wife(Lois Lane) and that pain and revenge is a driver, as well, behind ridding this Earth of its Superman.  But, what the most surprising thing about this show is who the villains are played by.  I say I’m surprised because it’s the CW.  They have consistently made their male white leads, in their shows, either the bad guys or extremely weak and pathetic.  Superman and Lois have, for some inexplicable reason, turned the CW’s political ideologies and wokeness on its head.  Maybe it’s because someone is not paying attention to the writing over at the CW or maybe, just maybe(I say this with a grain of hope), someone over at the CW has come to their senses and decided that they needed a show that was going to deliver on the ratings and be successful.  I’m surprised at the

CW’s decisions because in Superman and Lois, Captain Luthor, played by Wole Parks is the villain of the show and he’s black.  A black person depicted as a villain in our current political climate is unheard of.  Wole Parks does an amazing job as Captain Luthor and you really feel his pain and darkness as his character develops throughout each episode.  Not only that, a villain to Jordan Kents character is played played by a black man as well.  This shouldn’t be the case for a CW show which prides itself on consistently being the propagandist for wokeness.  But, this is what the CW has engrained into our brains, beating us to a pulp with it, week after week so what else should we expect? But, I shouldn’t have to think like that, should I.

It should all be about the story

It should all be about the story and not the lectures episode after episode.  We shouldn’t be condescended to every episode, of these woke shows, about how bad we are or how we need to do better.  These shows are about comic book characters that were meant to inspire and give us hope.  They should be made to entertain us and be allowed to escape the doldrums of our every day lives.  This is why Superman and Lois are a breath of fresh air.  And, so far, that is exactly what Superman and Lois has been giving us through episode 5.  Giving us a story that is balanced and driven and what the fans want.  Week after week Superman and Lois proved, in their ratings, that a superhero show can be really good if you don’t preach and lecture to us what your ideologies are.  We know what your ideologies are just leave them out of our shows.  Superman and Lois is a breath of fresh and, hopefully, with hands clasped and praying, we continue to watch Superman and Lois develop, grow, and entertain us through wonderful storytelling and respect for characters that we grew up loving.
