The Oscars were on last night?

Wait...the Oscars were on last night?
Regina King at the 2021 Oscars

Yes, indeed the Oscars were on last night and it looks like just about everyone else, like me, forgot they were on as well.  Although, I don’t think it was everyone that forgot, rather than the audience tuning out because they didn’t want to be lectured to by an ungrateful Hollywood elite that likes to play identity politics in their world of wokeness.

Lectured Again from an Ungrateful

                                                 Hollywood

We got proclamations from Regina King who said “If things had gone differently this week in Minneapolis, I may have had to trade in my heels for marching boots.”, and a weird but not unexpected acceptance of the best actor award by Joaquin Phoenix for Anthony Hopkins.  I mean could he have been less animated or gracious at all.  Anthony Hopkins’ response to his win over Instagram was more eloquent, animated, and grateful then Joaquin Phoenix could ever muster.

Sunday Nights Oscars Plummeted 58%

Sunday nights Oscars plummeted 58% from the previous years dismal showing with only 9.8 million people watching.  What’s even worse, and this better be a wake up call to Hollywood, is that the revered 18-49 demographic scored a cataclysmic 1.9 rating.  In other words, out of the 132 million people in that demographic, only 1.9% or 2,508,000 of that group actually watched the Oscars.  That’s huge because that is where advertisers make their money. That is the demographic that is buying what you’re selling…oh boy!  So I guess the other 7,292,000 people were to bored to get off their sofas and do something more interesting or maybe…maybe that’s actually a representation of Hollywoods audience.  And if that is the case, and I think it is, then Hollywood is losing money hand over fist to just pander to an audience who already agrees with them.  Good going Hollywood.

Hollywood is Pandering to an Audience that Already Agrees With Them

Hollywood just doesn’t get it.  When will they realize that they are where they are because they are entertainers.  That is why they were hired.  Not to preach, not to be holier than thou, and not to parent us on the rights and wrongs of the world.  I think the majority of us are old enough to make those conclusions and decisions for ourselves.  Stick to what you are paid to do Hollywood and entertain us.  Because at some point the money is going to run out and you are going to be looking in the mirror asking yourself what happened.  The fans don’t like it when they are lectured to in every thing that they watch.  Why do you think a small TV show like the CW’s Superman and Lois is doing so well?  It’s because they have taken the identity politics out of the equation and we can all just sit back, relax, and escape into a world that takes us out of ours for a moment and just forget.
