Ron DeSantis is no pushover, and knows exactly what he’s doing. There are those in the mainstream media, Disney, and the Reedy Creek District itself, that think the State of Florida is going to be responsible for Disney’s over 1 billion dollar bond debt, passing that giant bill onto Florida’s Tax payers. Ron DeSantis said on Laura Ingraham’s show Thursday night, that the Florida legislature and himself, were fully aware of the bond debt, and that is why they chose June 1st of 2023 to officially dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement Act. It was to give Florida time to put forth further legislation that would directly tackle that situation. Ron DeSantis also said, that Disney would ultimately be responsible for that 1 billion dollar bond debt, not the Florida tax payers. Ron DeSantis knows what he is doing, and Florida would not have taken up this fight unless they knew the endgame.
Reedy Creek Thinks it is Safe…It is Not
The Reedy Creek Improvement District stated last week, in a letter to its bond holders, that it intends to conduct business as normal, and that despite Florida revoking their special status, that Florida couldn’t legally dissolve the district without first paying off its bond debt.
Florida “will not in any way impair the rights or remedies of the holders…until all such bonds together with interest thereon, and all costs and expenses in connection with any act or proceeding by or on behalf of such holders, are fully met and discharged.”
The letter continued by stating that though it would continue in its self governing status, it would also be exploring its options, presumably around the new law.
“In light of the State of Florida’s pledge to the District’s bondholders, Reedy Creek expects to explore its options while continuing its present operations, including levying and collecting its ad valorem taxes and collecting its utility revenues, paying debt service on its ad valorem tax bonds and utility revenue bonds, complying with its bond covenants and operating and maintaining its properties.”
DeSantis and the Florida legislature are no slouches, and I’m sure already had plans to deal with the billion dollar bond issue.

Disney Should be Held to Account Just Like All Other Businesses in Florida
The reason for ending the Reedy Creek Improvement district, among others, was to level the playing field with other businesses in Florida.
“It just simply ends with them being treated the same as every other company in Florida. They’re going to follow laws. They’re not going to have their own government. They’re going to pay their debts, pay their taxes,” said DeSantis in his interview with Ingraham
DeSantis also furthered his argument against Disney, by saying that he was not going to allow Disney to have these special carve outs while they are attacking parents and their authority over their kids.
“I am not comfortable having one company with their own government and special privileges, when that company has pledged itself to attacking the parents in my state.”
DeSantis also added that Disney needed to get back to doing what they did great, and needed for its executives to stop injecting LGBTQ+ content into kids’ programming.
“When that company has very high up people talking about injecting pansexualism into programing for young kids, it’s wrong. Walt Disney would not want that. And so get back to the mission. Do what you did great. That’s why people love the company, and you’ve lost your way. Maybe this will be the wakeup call that they need to get back on track.”
Disney Needs to Get back to What They Did Great
Disney might still be enjoying their self governed autonomy, had they not attacked parents and their children, and promised to fight to repeal Florida’s lawfully passed Parental Rights in Education bill. DeSantis was right when he said that Disney needed to get back to doing what they did great. Disney has been famous for the magic they created not only in the parks but on television and in the movies. Their storytelling has spanned generations, creating a foundation of fans that seemed at one time, impenetrable. But now, Disney has thought it a wise business practice, to attack the very fans that have been the majority of their customer base for decades, saying, stating, and showing, that they will abide by the wishes of a very select few, that represent less than 5% of the entire United States population. It’s confounding, but not all that surprising, given the liberal activists that have slowly permeated every aspect of Disney’s operations. Ron DeSantis is protecting the sanctity of being a child in his State, as well as the rights of the parents in his State to have authority over that sanctity. Disney should be an example to companies around the United States, that messing with parents’ children, through visual propaganda, will not be tolerated.
