Joe Rogan, of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, bent the knee Sunday, and acquiesced to a cancel culture mob that more than likely don’t even listen to his podcast. Fans of Joe Rogan, will now get a new safe Joe Rogan that will watch what he says. Last Wednesday, Neil Young – (who?) – threatened Spotify with an ultimatum, and told Spotify to either take down Joe Rogan’s podcast, or remove his music. Well, Spotify responded by taking down Neil Young’s music. Neil Young was protesting against Joe Rogan for spreading misinformation around Covid-19. Spotify obviously was playing it business smart, by sticking with Joe Rogan and his 11 million listeners. But that was too good to be true, and as a result, as we always see…cancel culture won, in its quest to de-platform individuals, through censorship of their opinions. Joe Rogan came out on Sunday, and in a ten minute Instagram post, apologized, played it in the middle, and Spotify announced new misinformation guidelines, similar to those of other popular social media sites. Another win for censorship, and another loss for freedom of speech.
Let’s Listen to the Trusted Sources Who Have Been Spot On, Occasionally, Never, Maybe Once?
Both Spotify and Joe Rogan have caved to the censorship mobs by apologizing to those that spoke the loudest, just for formulating an opinion based on evidence. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek released a statement on Sunday that stated they were changing their guidelines based on feedback they received around The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
“Based on the feedback over the last several weeks, it’s become clear to me that we have an obligation to do more to provide balance and access to widely-accepted information from the medical and scientific communities guiding us through this unprecedented time. These issues are incredibly complex. We’ve heard you – especially those from the medical and scientific communities.”
The widely accepted information that only represents the vaccine side of Covid-19, and continues to ignore treatments and natural immunity. Ek would continue in his statement, releasing what the new guidelines would look like.
“We are working to add a content advisory to any podcast episode that includes a discussion about COVID-19. This advisory will direct listeners to our dedicated COVID-19 Hub, a resource that provides easy access to data-driven facts, up-to-date information as shared by scientists, physicians, academics and public health authorities around the world, as well as links to trusted sources.”
The trusted sources like the FDA, Anthony Fauci, the CDC, WHO, who have all flip flopped on their positions countless times, as they investigate the evidence. How are they more reliable than any professional that Joe Rogan has on his podcast? They are not, and I posit that individuals like Joe Rogan, have been more curious and dedicated to finding out the causes, treatments, and preventions around Covid, than the so called government bureaucrats.
A Watered Down Version of Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan, however, thought the best course of action was to apologize to a bunch of has been musicians, that apparently needed attention. And apologize for what? For having an opinion based on sound judgement, reason, and evidence? Neil Young is a hypocrite. He called out Joe Rogan for spreading misinformation(God I hate that term), while he himself has spread misinformation about illegal drug use, and how it was no big deal during his heyday. I’m sorry, but stating to your fans that illegal drug use was no big deal, when we all no it is a big deal, sounds like misinformation to me. Just as a side note, it’s also very interesting that Neil Young was chummy with Donald Trump, until Trump became President, and then he was his worst enemy. You can read the details over at thejeffreylord.com. Hypocrite. Joe Rogan stated in his Instagram post, that he was going to do hist best to balance things out, and apologized to anyone he pissed off.
“It’s a strange responsibility to have this many viewers and listeners. It’s very strange, and it’s nothing I’ve prepared for and it’s nothing that I ever anticipated. I’m gonna do my best in the future to balance things out. I’m gonna do my best. But my point in doing this is always just to create interesting conversations and ones that I hope people enjoy. So if I pissed you off, I’m sorry, and if you enjoy the podcast, thank you.”
Joe Rogan was the bull in the china shop that didn’t care whose feathers he ruffled. Now we’re going to get a watered down version of Joe Rogan? No thank you.
Joe Rogan’s Trust Has Come Into Question
I must admit, I am a bit mystified as to why Joe Rogan caved to the mob. From all appearances, it seemed that Joe Rogan would never cave to censorship, yet he has. I don’t presume to know all the machinations of his contract with Spotify, but I do know he owns the rights to his podcast, and Spotify currently owns the distribution rights. If I were Joe Rogan, I might have considered taking the podcast elsewhere, to an environment that was more free speech oriented. I know it’s not as easy as that, but in my opinion, Joe Rogan had the upper hand, and I’m sure some other social media site would have been licking their chops to get a Joe Rogan. We can only make speculations, but I think Joe Rogan has chosen, to some degree, to side with anti free speech Spotify, over his fans. Joe Rogan has built a following of loyal fans and supporters, that I’m sure some, will now question his authenticity and loyalty. There is now always going to be that veil of uncertainty around Rogan’s motives and guest appearances. I admittedly only watch Joe Rogan occasionally, but it was always a place that you could count on for honest debate and discussion, from those on all sides of the aisle. Joe Rogan didn’t, and doesn’t need to apologize to anyone, yet here we are listening to a man apologize for his opinions, in a country that was founded on free speech. But now, free speech has consequences, is intolerable, and will get you cancelled. I think the trust that Joe Rogan has built with his fans, is somewhat in question, and I think Joe Rogan will lose some of his fans as a result.
