Will Disney Plus Destroy Daredevil?

It looks like Disney is green lighting a new Daredevil series for their Disney+ streaming platform.  Charlie Cox will presumably be taking up the mantle of Daredevil again, as he was seen in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ as Peter Parker’s lawyer Mathew Murdock, and it was also confirmed by Kevin Feige a few months back when he stated that he couldn’t see anyone else playing the role of the red horned hero.  This would also establish Charlie Cox’s version of Daredevil as canon in the MCU.  The question, however, is how similar to the original Netflix series it will be, and if it will be the same gritty dark show we all know it should be.  Fans are expectedly anxious, as the Disney+ Marvel shows have been erratically successful at best, with lots of highs and lots of lows, and zero re-watchability.  Will Disney Plus destroy Daredevil?

Daredevil ran for three seasons on Netflix.  The first season was arguably the closest to a perfect story for a superhero TV show you’ll ever see on TV.  The second season was good, with the third the worst of the bunch.  That being said, I’ll take the first three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil over anything Kevin Feige and Disney+ has put out, which has been utter garbage.  In fact, I would argue that all of the Netflix Marvel shows were far and beyond, better representations of their respective characters, than what Disney+ has produced.  Yes, even Iron Fist, which was the worst of the Netflix produced shows.  What you can say about all three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil, that you can’t say about any of Disney+’s Marvel shows, is that they are re-watchable.  I’ve re-watched the first season of Daredevil quite a few times…I can’t say that about any of the Disney+ Marvel shows.  That’s a big concern, considering the fans of these comic book characters always rewatch good content.

Will a Disney+ Daredevil be Successful?

There are many concerns to be sure with a Disney+ Daredevil series.  Many of Disney+’s Marvel TV series have been a bait and switch, identity politics bore fest.  WandaVision for example, had a great concept in the beginning, and then lost all cohesiveness because the Doctor Strange elements were taken out, because according to Kevin Feige“We didn’t want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie – here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.”  Or in ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, the fans were subjected to BLM like content that saw Sam Wilson, AKA The Falcon, being singled out because he was black.  Sam Wilson is an Avenger, was The Falcon, and is now Captain America.  It didn’t make sense, was overtly political, and the fans lost immediate interest.  Loki was successful, in my opinion, because of Tom Hiddleston, and not the story.  We were shown a now gender fluid Loki that never occurred in the comic books.  It was more forced representation, of a well established character that wasn’t needed.  The list goes on with the rest of the Marvel shows, which just showed the fans that Marvel is more interested in diversity and inclusion, than actually telling a good story.  So will Daredevil suffer the same fate?  I hope not, because it would be great to see Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio at it again, as the greatest on screen representations of Daredevil and Kingpin we’ve ever seen.  But, if precedence is any indication, then Daredevil might be in trouble.  We’ll just have to wait and see, and cross a lot of fingers.
