It takes a special kind of unfeeling twit to compare police officers to fascists, after a police officers funeral, in which fellow brothers in blue were mourning the passing of a hero. But that’s just what Susan Sarandon did. Barely hear of her lately? Me too. In a Twitter post, after the funeral of NYPD Detective Jason Rivera, Susan Sarandon tweeted “So, if all these cops weren’t needed for CRIME that day, doesn’t that mean they aren’t needed ANY day?”. Susan Sarandon isn’t the only celebrity who took issue with the funeral, and just proves how out of touch with everyday people, and what’s going on in the world, celebrities are. Susan Sarandon, is just another example of a self absorbed, ignorant celebrity, who thinks the world is listening. We hear you and others of your ilk Ms. Sarandon, but we most certainly are not listening to your callous incompetence.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is All Talk and No Action
Detectives Jason Rivera and Wilbur Mora, were both gunned down on January 21st, during a Harlem domestic dispute call. Rivera died of his injuries that night, while Mora died days after. This is the 6th NYPD officer to be shot this year, and it is not a good sign for newly elected Mayor Eric Adams, who ran on getting crime under control. So far, he’s been all talk and no action, with crime continuing to rise despite his many promises to take action. Sarandon’s heartless comment was met with severe backlash from the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, The National Fraternal Order of Police, and many more.
“This is what privilege looks like: a wealthy actress, safe in her bubble, mocking heroes & making light of the crisis that cops are battling alongside our communities. NYC is uniting to stop the violence — @SusanSarandon is living on a different planet.”
“Of all the days for @SusanSarandon to share her true feelings towards police, she picks the day we bury our fallen brother to make such inflammatory & brainless comments. When you spend more time hating on cops than you do your own career, it’s no wonder why you’re a D-list actor.
“There are 35K #NYPD cops in NYC. This is 3 hours. Many off duty, other agencies, representing over 850K sworn LEOs in this country. Shame on you @SusanSarandon 2 young Dominican cops were killed & you spread anti police rhetoric. You’re a disgusting person,” – Retired NYPD Detective Angel L. Maysonet
“You seriously need help. Let’s hope you never need us.” – Retired Los Angeles Homicide Detective Sal Labarbera
“Congratulations, Susan Sarandon! You’re now the poster child of an angry, woke, liberal, pro-criminal, anti-law and order jerk. There are other more fitting titles, but it only gets more vulgar from here.” – Republican Gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin
Put Your Politics Aside and Find Your heart
Sarandon wasn’t the only actor to get involved in the rhetoric. Actress Jacqueline Guzman was fired, after she posted a viral video that said, “We do not need to shut down most of Lower Manhattan because one cop died for probably doing his job incorrectly.” These celebrities live on their own planet, where they think they are the only ones that matter. They never take a step back and realize how their actions might influence or hurt others. The NYPD lost two heroes in the line of duty, and it escapes me how some people don’t understand that. These two men had families, and are grieving. Instead of being vitriolic, how about putting your politics aside for a minute, and reach out and try to understand what those families and brothers in blue are going through. Try and find whatever red is left in your blackened heart, and think about your actions and their consequences, and try to be human for a change.
