The MCU is doubling down on wokeness in their content across the board. This, along with a divisive narrative in Disney’s Re-imagination campaign of diversity and inclusivity, has Disney’s CEO backed into a cancel culture corner, that I don’t think he will survive…or…does it matter? Disney has still managed to survive financially, despite losses in Disney Plus subscribers and box office failures. Where is the money coming from? While companies toppled during the Pandemic, Disney managed to stay afloat…how? I know they are huge company, and that doesn’t get beyond me, but Disney had stretched themselves out so thin financially, you would think that something like the pandemic, in which Disney lost billions, would have had them near bankruptcy. And, with the recent earnings report, where their stock dropped 8% because of slow subscriber rates, due to the lack of audience participation in their woke content, you would think they might want to take a step back. Instead, Disney has decided to take a nose dive into diversity and inclusivity, subscribers and box office receipts be damned. Disney is surviving financially, through something called environmental social governance funding. ESG, for short, is a government social justice agenda rating system, that basically says, that the higher a company’s environmental, social, or governance rating is, the better chance they have of being invested in. So, when we hear Victoria Alonso, one of Marvel Studios’ heads, shout from the rooftops that they are going to go full bore on diversity and inclusivity, you know why….ESG.
Diversity and Inclusion is Here to Stay
Victoria Alonso, President of Physical and Post Production, Visual Effects, and Animation at Marvel Studios, was adamant about diversity and inclusion in all of Marvel Studio’s content. On November 13th, after accepting the Visionary Award at the Outfest Legacy Awards, Alonso gave a speech on diversity and inclusion, in which she dedicated Marvel’s commitment to “stir it up” and continue at all costs.
“We have tried to stir it up and sometimes the critics are not with us. That’s OK. That’s OK, we thank you for being a critic. We thank you for writing about us. And the fans will decide. Diversity and inclusion is not a political game for us. It is 100 percent a responsibility because you don’t get to have the global success that we have given the Walt Disney Company without the support of people around the world of every kind of human there is. I want to do it all. I want to make sure I get out there and I create as much change as time will allow.”
Get Woke, Go Broke?
I think Victoria Alonso is trying to prove to investors, how good Disney and Marvel’s ESG rating is by touting the MCU’s past successes. Understandable, since the MCU has made Disney Billions. But that was then and this is now. In less than a year, Kevin Feige and Victoria Alonso have managed to produce some of the most divisive content, and have effectively polarized their fanbase, much like Kathleen Kennedy did to StarWars. And, Alonso admits, in her speech, that they are not done yet and want to create as much change as time will allow. That’s pretty deceptive. Could Victoria Alonso be alluding to the fact that Bob Chapek is not happy with the direction that Kevin Feige is taking the MCU? Probably not, because it’s about the agenda and securing those good ESG ratings for investors. Under Feige’s autonomy, as head of Marvel Studios, he’s had three failures in a row, albeit, the jury is still out on Eternals, but that is pretty much a fete de compli. So, can Disney afford to have another Star Wars if they don’t have to worry where the money is coming from…of course they can. Does it look bad…yes, but they get the agenda across as well. Compile that with Kevin Feige’s obsession with erasing all of the male superheroes in the MCU, that got him to the current position he enjoys at Marvel Studios, and I think it’s guaranteed that the MCU will be a failed franchise, at least with the fans. Get woke, go broke? Not yet.
Environmental Social Governance Ratings Will Fund Woke Content
Disney will continue on its diversity, inclusion, and equity tour, despite losing Disney Plus subscribers, box office receipts, and a dedicated fanbase. Get woke, go broke doesn’t apply to Disney because they are not going to go broke. They are being funded by an ESG rating system, which the government has “encouraged” investors to lean into when considering funding. For example, when Kevin Feige gender swaps all of his male characters in the MCU, that would give Disney a high social rating, and therefore improve their chances of getting investor funding, including tax dollar funds. Another example, would be Disney’s Re-imagine Tomorrow campaign, where they are insistent on hiring people based on the color of their skin rather than their talent. This gives Disney a good ESG rating. In other words, ESG basically allows investors to invest in companies based on their social credit score rather than their profitability. This rating system was introduced in 2015 by Barack Obama, taken away by the Trump administration, and reinstituted with a vengeance, by the Biden administration. It’s diabolical and dishonest. Disney doesn’t care about diversity and inclusion, they’re all about the cash they can land. This is why all of their programming is socially and environmentally focused. Look at what happened to Gina Carano. She’s a conservative opposed to diversity and inclusion and Disney can’t have that because it would affect their ESG score. Everyone wonders, how is Disney able to keep making big budget productions, given all the money they have lost over the last year and half. Well, ESG is your answer. I know it’s a lot to take in, and I’m just learning about this, but it would explain a whole lot of how Disney can still stay afloat, regardless of a waning audience losing interest in their un-original entertainment. You can read more about ESG here and here.
Disney is Relying on Oblivious Fans
I know what you’re thinking. Why would any company not care about their reputation? Why would Disney forsake the love of the fans for the almighty dollar bill? I think Disney is counting on the fact they have a built in fanbase, with a solid foundation, that won’t care how Disney stays afloat or how they do it. Wash, rinse, repeat. There are enough Disney fans out there, in my opinion, that will keep their eyes closed and drink the Kool-Aid as long as they can get their five minute Disney fix. There’s also a lot of Disney fans that refuse to believe a company founded by a genuine fan, could be so rotten to its core. I know that sounds negative, but Disney is selling a diversity and inclusion narrative that is based in racism. Disney used to be the company that hired you based solely on your talent. Now, so they can stay financially sound and have a good ESG rating, they are hiring people based on the color of their skin. You’re just a number in their diversity equation, that fits the bill to Disney. How crazy is that? Why would any fan put up with that kind of discrimination? I could take you down the rabbit hole, but Disney isn’t the only company that’s doing this. Look at all your commercials, for example, as you watch TV, and pay attention to all the diversity and inclusion that dominates every single one. The government is nudging you into thinking a certain way and they have found a way for these big companies to profit from it.
