Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has announced that he will open his Florida ports at JAXPORT, Port Everglades, Port Tampa Bay and Port Panama City, to help alleviate the bottle necking that is occurring at New York and California harbors. DeSantis made the announcement at JAXPORT along with his Department of Transportation Secretary Kevin Thibault and Florida Seaport executives. During the event, JAXPORT announced that it would offer incentives to any company who wanted to deliver their goods to that seaport. At a time of the year when consumers spend the most and expect the most, this is a welcome relief, from a governor who has been the example of how to run any institution. With Ron DeSantis there’s finally an adult in the room.
Ron DeSantis Might Just Stave Off the Supply Shortage in the United States
Governor DeSantis was able to make that announcement because of investments the state of Florida has made in their seaports. Governor DeSantis stated along with the Florida’s Dept. of transportation, that since 2019, Florida has invested 1 billion dollars to ensure any capacity could be met including logjams created by the busiest times of the year
“Year after year we continue to invest in our seaports, in infrastructure and in workforce education to make sure our supply chain is resilient. I’m especially proud of Florida’s seaports. They are crown jewels in our state. While other U.S. ports are just now announcing around-the-clock operations, in Florida many of our ports are used to serving Florida farmers, families and businesses with 24 hour operations. As the rest of the nation faces rampant inflation and businesses stare down unprecedented supply chain problems, our message is this: Florida is here, we have capacity, we have incentive packages to help businesses who want to move here and we are going to make sure Americans get their Christmas Gifts this season.”
Florida is in a great position, logistically, to take on the added cargo carriers, alleviate traffic from New York and California seaports, and show the rest of the country what great common sense leadership looks like. If Governor DeSantis and the state of Florida can help at least alleviate some of the pressures at our other coastal seaports, the holiday season might yet still be saved.
