The Woke Trope of Disney

The Walt Disney company just does not understand the temperature of the fans when it comes to representation in our favorite franchises.  In a new Twitter post by ‘Beyond the Trailer’ host and creator Grace Randolph, Randolph claims that Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’ will contain substantial LGBTQ representation.  She said this in response to fans that were upset about the abysmal Rotten Tomato score that ‘The Eternals’ has garnered over the last week.  I’m not sure where Grace Randolph is getting her information from, but would anyone be surprised if Disney and Pixar made sure there was representation in ‘Lightyear’?  Not one bit.  It is the woke trope of Disney to make sure every one of their franchises has diversity and inclusion in them. All this to appease the minuscule portion of their audience rather than the majority of their audience.  But, as a result, we are slowly seeing failure after failure, as more and more of these franchises force divisive representation onto its audiences.  Audiences, that are frankly exhausted from being lectured to in their entertainment.  Disney is quickly becoming a joke of its own making, as they walk the tightrope of caring about making money versus agenda, and Bob Chapek is the punchline.

Will Pixar Destroy One of Their Most Beloved Characters?

Even though Disney is on the woke representation band wagon, I am not totally convinced that Pixar will place LGBTQ themes into one of their most beloved characters.  The veteran Pixar director, Angus MacLane, in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, came out and said that ‘Lightyear’ is supposed to be a fun movie that you’ll watch over and over again.  He seems genuinely committed to the character of Buzz Lightyear and the way he would be handled in ‘Lightyear’.

“Lightyear really is a story that’s very personal. It’s meant to be, more than anything, a really fun movie in the way that I work in movies because I like movies. I like watching movies. And I really want it to be something that’s enjoyable and fun, and it would just stay with you, and it would just be something you would go and see again.  That sense in movies like when we were kids. Lightyear is a love letter to the process, and a love letter to movies.”

Forced LGBTQ Themes in Family Entertainment is Irresponsible

Pixar hasn’t traditionally been for putting LGBTQ messaging in their movies, but in Toy Story 4 there was a same sex couple in a couple of scenes at Bonnie’s Kindergarten school.  Whether that was Disney mandated or Pixar put that in themselves, remains to be seen.  Regardless, Disney she not be in the business, of putting controversial topics into their movies that are meant for children.  It’s irresponsible and not Disney’s place to be teaching impressionable young children about LGBTQ themes.  I’m hoping that Pixar doesn’t ruin a great character from a great franchise, but Disney’s trend has not been all that promising.  There’s only so much failure Disney can sustain at the box office.  With the failures of ‘Black Widow’, ‘Shang-Chi’, and more than likely, ‘The Eternals’, in your face representation and woke messaging, is a recipe for disaster.  Not to mention the fact that it’s hard pressed to find anything original coming out of the house of mouse as well.  With remake after remake and reboot after reboot, the audience is just tired of it and wants something new and original.  ‘Lightyear’ from Pixar, appears to be fun, and does tell an original story, but can it stay away from LGBTQ mob and just give us a fun exciting movie about a character we all love?  We’ll see…
