Pat Hitchcock has passed away at the age of 93. Born on July 7th 1928, Patricia Alma Hitchcock was the only child of Alfred and Alma Hitchcock and was a loyal and consummate fan of her father’s work. She appeared in three of Alfred Hitchcock’s movies ‘Stagefright’, ‘Strangers on a Train’, and ‘Psycho’ and was in over a dozen of Hitchcock’s ‘Alfred Hitchcock: Presents’ episodes. In ‘Stagefright’ she played a school friend of Jane Wyman’s character named Chubby bannister, Caroline, an office mate to Janet Leigh’s character in ‘Psycho’, and Barbara Morton who was the sister of Ruth Roman’s character Anne Morton in ‘Strangers on a Train’. It was in ‘Strangers on a Train’ that Pat Hitchcock is probably most memorable. Hitchcock had a great scene with the main antagonist in the movie, played by Robert Walker, in which Hitchcock’s character, Barbara Morton, ends up being choked half to death by Robert Walker’s character as he is reminded of a similar situation in which he did choke a woman to death. She retired from acting early to raise her children but was always behind the scenes protecting her father’s legacy. She c0-wrote a book about her mother “Alma Hitchcock: The Woman Behind the Man” and can always be seen in the special feature documentaries on each of her father’s films.
Pat Hitchcock Will be Missed
Pat Hitchcock was a great asset to the Alfred Hitchcock legacy and someone that will be sorely missed. She was a comfort to listen to as she talked and
reminisced about her father and mother and it was fun to watch. Alfred Hitchcock is my favorite director of all time. He brought an innovative and emotional touch to all of his movies that, to this day, keep fans invested in after all these years. His creativity, wit, and genius behind the camera has no peer and will never be replicated. His movies never get old and can be watched over and over again with that same intrigue and interest as when you first saw them and that is why he has some of the biggest fans in the world. I couldn’t help but feel sad and a little empty when I heard the news that Pat Hitchcock had passed away because, in a way, she was the last connection we had to the amazing director that was Alfred Hitchcock.
