No One is Safe

I wonder if Amazon, Disney, Marvel, and any other studios that have been force feeding their audiences the non-stop garbage that has been coming out of Hollywood, are paying attention to what David Zaslav is doing over at Warner-Discovery. David Zaslav is taking no prisoners, and if it’s not making money or going to make money, it’s going to be scrapped, regardless if it fits the diversity and inclusion narrative that Hollywood is so infatuated with.  It would appear that David Zaslav is going to expect his company to produce quality content that audiences actually want to see, and if anyone in his company doesn’t like that approach, well…there’s the door.  The mountain of casualties is growing, and the fans couldn’t be more excited.  From CNN to The CW, no one is safe at Warner-Discovery while David Zaslav cleans his new house.

CNN Should be Reporting on the Facts

Where to begin.  Zaslav’s first casualty was CNN’s doomed CNN+ streaming service.  CNN+ which launched on march 29th, was shuttered a mere 4 weeks later on April 30th.  Over 350 employees were laid off as a result.  Zaslav, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, said that he wanted CNN to be reporting on the truth and facts, and get away from advocacy networks that have been monopolizing the news industry

“If we get that, we can have a civilized society.  And without it, if it all becomes advocacy, we don’t have a civilized society.”

Makes sense, and subtly lets CNN know that the time for their fake news reporting, is running out.

The CW Has Never Made a Profit

Then there’s all of the Arrowverse shows on The CW that have been canceled.  Batwoman, The Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, The Flash, Supergirl, and Naomi, which has only been on for 1 season, have all defined go woke, go broke.  The CW itself is going to be sold off as it has never been a profit maker since it’s inception.  In the beginning, The CW seemed to have struck gold with a great couple of seasons from Arrow and The Flash, that started the whole Arrowverse conglomerate.  But it all took a quick downward spiral as The CW latched on to woke politics like a dog with a bone, turning off fans in droves.

Even Clint Eastwood Isn’t Safe

If those weren’t enough hints that David Zaslav meant business, there are rumors that Warners 50 year partnership with Clint Eastwood might be on the chopping block as well, because his last few movies haven’t produced a profit, with Zaslav saying “We don’t owe anyone any favors.”  Even though they have had a 50 year partnership, I believe Clint Eastwood would agree with Zaslav, and wouldn’t expect any hand outs.

The Current DCEU is Apparently No More

David Zaslav wasn’t done there, and decided that movies like Batgirl, which were going to have a race swapped Barbara Gordon, and have Michael Keaton’s Batman be killed off, making Batgirl the new Batman, we’re going to be shelved….even though it was completed.  Wonder Twins was canceled as well, having fans wondering why these obscure characters were even in development in the first place.  Others will probably be on the chopping block as well, including Gotham Knights, Supergirl, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Blue Beetle, and maybe even the successful Superman and Lois.  Zaslav has a ten year plan with DC’s characters, and wants to make sure Warner and DC get it right, and a clean slate seems like it’s in DC and Warner Bros. future.

Streaming Isn’t the Focus

David Zaslav has made it patently clear that he cares about making a profit, and that if the content isn’t quality, and more importantly not going to make Warner-Discovery money, it’s going to be tossed.  More evidence is in Zaslav’s axing of J J Abrams big budget streaming series Demimonde.  This could also be a hint that Zaslav doesn’t have a lot of confidence in Abrams’ ability to produce a hit or quality content, but that’s pure speculation, as Zaslav is rumored to like Abrams’ work.  David Zaslav is also not betting the farm on subs for his streaming service like other companies are, and is only projecting a meager 130 million subs by 2025, in comparison to companies like Disney, that are hoping for 260 million by 2024.  Zaslav instead wants to focus on theatrical releases, and what could be gained from ancillary profits as a result.  Either way, David Zaslav is a bull in a china shop, and no one is sacred or safe.  Studios like Disney and Amazon, should pay attention, because if Zaslav gets this right, Warner-Discovery will be a behemoth to be reckoned with, as Amazon and Disney sit on failure after failure because they wanted to get the woke just right.  This could bode well for fans as well as be a catalyst for others in Hollywood to get off their righteous woke pedestal, and start producing product that everyone wants to see.  We’ll all cross our fingers, as we hope David Zaslav is the antidote to the woke nonsense that has plagued Hollywood for quite some time now.
