Overlord DVD, AKA Diktor Van Doomcock, released a video yesterday, with new information that claims Gina Carano is returning to ‘The Mandalorian’. The rumored information comes from many of Doomcock’s sources inside of Lucasfilm, but states that Gina Carano was in a meeting with Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and the killer B’s(a reference to Bob Chapek and Bob Iger), and that it was all but a done deal. As always with Doomcock’s videos, he asked his listeners to take the rumored information with a grain of salt. So, is Gina Carano returning to ‘The Mandalorian’? My guess would be no, but Doomcock’s information is very compelling.
Gina Carano Was Essential to the Favreauverse
Doomcock received the initial information back on September 20th with the following details from his inside source:
“I wanted to share some exciting news with you. A meeting just took place with Jon, Dave, the killer B’s, and Gina Carano. It is a done deal. Gina signed the contract to return for season 4 of ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘Rangers of the New Republic’. The contract allows her to appear in crossover episodes of other LucasFilm Star Wars properties.”
Doomcock continued in his video, by stating that his source claimed that Jon Favreau was now back on track with ‘Rangers of the New Republic’, which was to star Gina Carano. According to Doomcock, if Gina Carano did come back, that would place the Favreauverse of ‘The Mandalorian, ‘Book of Boba Fett’, ‘Rangers of the New Republic’, and ‘Ahsoka’, back on track. When Gina Carano was fired over social media by Disney, Favreau’s plans for an expanded universe, that would also help in retconning the Disney Star Wars trilogy, were effectively ruined. This meant that Favreau had to start from scratch if he wanted to save that storyline, because Carano’s character, Cara Dune, was a key element that would have helped tie all those series’ together.
Additional Sources say Carano Will be Back
But, according to Doomcock, there was a wrinkle in his sources information. That wrinkle being, that Carano could not come back to ‘The Mandalorian’ because she had allegedly given up her SAG card(Screen Actors Guild). The Screen Actors Guild and the Hollywood unions, would never allow a prominent actor like Carano onto a major studio set without that SAG card. Doomcock asked his source, that gave him the initial information on Carano’s return to ‘The Mandalorian’, about Carano’s SAG card, and his source claims that Carano just let the card lapse.
“As far as I know, she did not give up her card, she just let it lapse. In which case she can renew it at any time. As far as her movie, Daily Wire can make any type of movie they want…thriller, western, horror, etc…They don’t have to deal with any of the Hollywood rules because they don’t distribute to theaters through any of the old channels. They are like an independent film company, distribution company, and digital service all in one.”
Doomcock followed up with additional information from additional sources:
“This is from a new source and we ran it by “codename: redacted” and he didn’t know about this and he plans to look into this. We have been told Gina will be back as Cara Dune. She will get her own show and it will be on her terms and she could possibly be the highest paid female in Star Wars second only to the “ward” AKA Brie Larson. That is what we call her. Supposedly, this deal was struck just last week, the ink is not dry yet.”
Doomcock did ultimately say, that his sources regarding this new information were not many and that he remained undecided on its validity. He also added that the news that the ‘Rangers of the High Republic’ is back in production, is good news because that series was always meant as a Gina Carano led series.
Is it Possible That Gina Carano Comes back to ‘The Mandalorian’? Maybe.
Finally, Doomcock did assert that he is not one to take information like this blindly and dug further, questioning WDW Pro at thatparkplace.com on what he had heard.
“Never say never, but as for now, there is no plan for Carano to return. 0 plan. Mandalorian also likely to end with season 3.”
Two different rumors with two different outcomes. In my opinion, I don’t think Gina Carano is coming back, short of a public apology from Bob Chapek and Kathleen Kennedy no longer running Lucasfilm. I say this reluctantly, of course, because having Gina Carano back as Cara Dune would be incredible for Star Wars. Gina Carano is a strong female who got ousted in the most shameful and cowardly way by a woman in charge of LucasFilm, that claims to support strong females in Hollywood. Gina Carano’s firing by Kennedy, looked more like a woman scorned in jealous rage that had to get rid of her enemy.
Mace Windu is Alive?
Doomcock continued with further information, from a source that he could not confirm, around the future of the Favreauverse. He did add, that if this information was true, and that was a big if, it would be amazing news. According to Doomcock’s source, Samuel L. Jackson was spotted in the offices of LucasFilm and the following was the reason why:
“Jon wants to bring back Mace Windu and Mara Jade into the ‘Ahsoka’ series. Jon and George(Lucas) are planning to have Ahsoka lead into the thrawn series, where we find that Mace did not die and is still on Coruscant. Mara Jade will be the hand of Thrawn and there will be three factions including Thrawn, Moff Gideon, and another Admiral who will be the main antagonist for all Rangers, all fighting to rebuild the Empire.”
Doomcock ended his video, by telling his audience that everything he knew on the Gina Carano situation is everything that we now know.
“On the question of Gina Carano, you now know everything that I know. I suppose only time will tell.”
If Anyone Can Make the Impossible Possible it’s Jon Favreau
Mace Windu being found alive on Coruscant and reinserted into canon, would certainly give Star Wars fans a reason to cheer. If Jon Favreau manages to pull that off, like he did with Luke Skywalker, it would be the second shot heard around the world from the collective roar of gratitude, from a tired and battle worn fanbase. If anything, Doomcock has given us hope in a quagmire of pop culture rot that is Disney Star Wars, and I for one, am very grateful indeed.
