Gal Gadot was attacked by the Twitter mob last week when she had the unmitigated gaul to speak out against the violence that is going on between Israel and Hamas. I say that sarcastically, of course, but it certainly does look like the left is eating its own now doesn’t it. With the article I wrote on Hollwood’s “Consequence Culture” , it feels like we’re seeing more and more instances of it everyday. Gal Gadot posted on her Twitter account about how she was feeling around the recent attacks against her home country of Israel and the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Israel Retaliates Against Hamas
The recent conflict between Hamas and Israel started at the beginning of Ramadan when Israeli Police placed barriers at the Old City’s Damascus Gate, which is a main thoroughfare to the Old City’s holy sites. They were later removed but clashes and protests resulted in the threatened evictions of Palestinian families from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah due to a court order from the Israeli government stating that Jewish families laid a historic claim to those properties. This resulted in Hamas launching 1500 rockets into Israel , due to what Hamas states, as provocations from Israel. Israel has since responded with rockets launched to specific sites in Gaza and an increased ground force at the Gaza border.

The backlash then ensued from followers and critics about Gal Gadot’s use of the word “neighbors” and accused Gadot of supporting ethnic cleansing and mass genocide. Some critics even claimed that she was being used as a “propaganda” tool for Israel because of her past service in the Israeli Defense Forces. All Israeli citizens are required to serve a mandatory 2 years in the service. Gal Gadot has since disabled comments on her Twitter account but has left the post active. This almost sounds like what they did in trying to cancel Gina Scarano for having an opinion about Cancel Culture. There hasn’t been much support from costars of Gadot’s but there has been plenty of condemnation for Israel and support of the Palestinians among many celebrities. Roger Waters,
formerly of Pink Floyd, said in an instagram post on May 6th, before the conflict had escalated, “it’s official ISRAEL is an APARTHEID STATE. Check out SHEIKH JARRAH GENOCIDAL HOUSE CLEARINGS.” Mark Ruffalo has also condemned Israel’s actions. Models Gigi and Bella Hadid, whose father is Palestinian, posted quotes from an artist that said “You Will Not Erase Palestine.” Natalie Portman, who is Israeli born, has been a consistent proponent of the Palestinian efforts against Israel and has condemned Israel on a number of occasions. In a recent Instagram post from one of her co stars, Avi Avni, who starred with Portman in 2005’s ‘Free Zone’, stated that Natalie Portman was “not his friend anymore”.
More and More Celebrities Attacked for Having an Opinion
Even online sites such as Variety had a more pro Palestinian take on the conflict before they updated their Gal Gadot article for “clarity”. They stated in their original article, and I’m paraphrasing because the original doesn’t exist, that the conflict was escalated due to Israel’s rocket attack on Hamas. Omitting the reason why Israel had launched the attacks in the first place. Gal Gadot has every right to defend her home country and to say as she pleases. You don’t have to like what she says but at least come at it with her point of view in mind instead of having an ignorant emotional response and insulting her. Gal Gadot and other celebrities attacked by the Twitter mob is nothing new but we see how more and more celebrities who were once touted for their words of wisdom, are now being condemned and targeted for having an opinion. Gal Gadot is a strong woman, that other women should look up to. But in this day and age of reactionary, emotional responses, the role models are becoming less clear and more acquiescing than they have ever been. Hollywood used to be a place to escape and have fun but has become a cesspool of hate and division that is controlled by a social media addiction that is now, on a more regular basis, eating itself alive from within.

I for one will enjoy the day that a new Hollywood rises from the ashes of the social media cancer. And it will, because there are signs everywhere that people are turning away from the hate and finding alternative forms of entertainment…content creators on YouTube anyone? Yes…please!
