You just gotta love everything about William Shatner. He means what he says and says what he means. He’s not rude, he’s not flippant, he’s not crass, and sprinkles in just enough sarcasm to get his point across. He just says what’s on his mind in a matter of fact way, and some people love him for that, and some people like George Takei, have William Shatner living rent free in his brain. There have been many stories and comments from the cast of the original series about how self centered and difficult William Shatner is to work with. There are always two sides to the story and bits of truth from both those sides. But the one thing fans know, is that William Shatner has never thrown the first punch, and has spent years defending or punching back, and has been very humble in his responses to those swipes and insults. Shatner has finally taken a stand in an article from The Times of London, in response to questions about George Takei’s insults, and said enough is enough.
William Shatner Has Had Enough
William Shatner said that he’s done with the likes of George Takei taking shots at him for things that may or may not have happened decades ago, and to get over it. In an article from The Times of London, William Shatner was asked about George Takei’s recent swipe at Shatner’s trip to space, in which Takei referred to Shatner as Jeff Bezos’ Guinea pig for unfit 90 year olds going to space, along with other negative comments from fellow cast mates.
“Sixty years after some incident, they are still on that track. Don’t you think that’s a little weird? It’s like a sickness. I began to understand that they were doing it for publicity.”
“George [Takei] has never stopped blackening my name. These people are bitter and embittered. I have run out of patience with them. Why give credence to people consumed by envy and hate?”
Amen to that. William Shatner is 100% right. Does William Shatner have an ego at times…sure. But who doesn’t and who cares? I think William Shatner has earned his ego. He’s accomplished a lot in his 91 years on this planet, which is more than you can say for George Takei. George Takei has kept himself in the limelight by specifically targeting Shatner any chance he can get. It’s petty, smells of a man that appears insecure, and ironically, is just as selfish as the things Takei accuses Shatner of being.

George Takei Needs to Embrace What He Brought to the Sulu Character
In my opinion, there is a bit of jealousy going on, specifically in George Takei’s case, but there’s also some wanting to be seen as relevant in the public domain. William Shatner is one of the busiest men in the industry. At 91 years old, there seems to be no stopping his relentless energy to tackle new projects. God bless him and I hope we get another 91 years. Whatever allegedly happened between William Shatner and the cast of the original Star Trek series happened many decades ago. It would seem that some have continued, or still continue to harbor this resentment for William Shatner’s success. That sounds like a them problem and not a William Shatner problem. The funny thing, is that everyone of those actors that starred on Star Trek, are revered to this day…well maybe except George Takei…in this humble writer’s opinion. George Takei has taken his bitterness towards William Shatner to a whole new level. If you’re still this bitter after 50 years, I’d say it’s time to be a little introspective as to why you feel it necessary to hang on to such hate. Everyone loved your portrayal of Sulu in the original series and in the movies. How about just embracing that instead of your animosity toward William Shatner. But hey, if it’s all about attention, and you feel the only way to get it, is by constantly insulting William Shatner, then I can see no better way to get that attention than riding the coattails of the great William Shatner.
