Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman, recently offered his services to help interview new police recruits for the Gulf Shores Police Department in Alabama. Freeman, who owns property in the Gulf Shores, volunteered his services along with a criminal justice professor, in which both sat in on the interview process along with government and police officials. Oscar winning Morgan Freeman, a long time advocate for police departments, is a common sense celebrity, that is rare in in a time of knee jerk reaction, go with the flow, celebrities we see today.
Freeman in No Way Supports Defunding America’s Police Departments
Freeman has made it very clear that he supports the police in this country, and is against any kind of defunding for police departments. In an interview with ‘Black Enterprise’ magazine’s Selena Hill, Freeman said he was in no way in favor of defunding America’s police departments
“I’m not in the least bit for defunding the police. Police work is, aside from all the negativity around it, it is very necessary for us to have them, and most of them are guys that are doing their job. They’re going about their day-to-day jobs. There are some police the never pulled their guns except in rage, that sort of thing. I don’t know.”
Freeman also walked the walk and talked the talk by donating 1 million dollars to the University of Mississippi, to help establish the Center for Evidence based Policing and Reform. The center aims to develop ways to train police officers on community engagement in crime prevention and on conflict resolution practices.

A Common Sense Celebrity
Morgan freeman has always been a common sense, thought provoking celebrity, who doesn’t play it safe for the mainstream media. He means what he says and says what he means. Freeman is by no means a center right celebrity. Besides being an advocate for police departments, Freeman is pretty much on the far left of the political spectrum. He has called out Americans who have not been vaccinated, participated in the Trump-Russia collusion hoax, and supports gun control. It is nice to see, though, a celebrity with Freeman’s caliber voice a coherent, common sense argument once in a while.
