Gavin Newsom claims California is the place to be because your freedoms will be protected. He says if you live in Florida, you’ll have freedoms taken away, books will be banned, speech in schools will be restricted, it will be harder to vote, and women and doctors will be criminalized. Yet in San Diego, home of the most famous comic-con in the world, you’ll be required to show a health pass that either shows your proof of vaccination or recent covid test to enter the event. In addition, you will be required to mask up at all times. If any of those requirements are not met, you will be thrown out of the SDCC by security. Welcome to California. In a country where almost everyone has moved on from Covid, why would Gavin Newsom allow these kind of mandates in his state of California. I mean after all, according to Newsom, your freedoms will be under attack if you live in Florida, and they had the gaul to stop covid mandates ages ago. The SDCC can do whatever it wants, but image wise, this is a bad move and a bad look, and will leave fans frustrated.
You Will Comply or be Thrown Out
San Diego Comic-con, is requiring all attendees, regardless of vaccination status, to provide a health pass upon entering the event. Tight fitting masks are also a requirement, and if any of the requirements are not met, you will be thrown out by security. A negative Covid test is also acceptable for the health pass requirements, as long as it was taken within 72 hours. The health pass is downloadable, and will quickly verify your vaccination/covid test status. Once you have your health pass, you will be able to get a wristband at any one of six locations for entry into the event. One issue that SDCC hopefuls seem to be having, is with kids 17 and under. There apparently is no way for them to download the app because they are minors. Hopefully they had that fixed, because you know how those kids can be super spreaders. These mandates to enter the convention shouldn’t be a surprise, however, because San Diego schools are actually mandating masks for schools in the fall. Hundreds of thousands of Californians couldn’t be leaving California because it’s so free and less oppressive…right?

Wear That Mask Correctly Because it Won’t Prevent You From Getting Covid
Fans of course were not happy, and expressed their frustrations on SDCC’s Twitter page, with lots of fans saying they were not going to attend because of the ridiculous requirements. Welcome to Gavin Newsom’s California where Covid mandates are still a thing. But hey, while Gavin Newsom is measuring drapes at the White House, and putting out ads telling America how oppressive Florida is, SDCC attendees can feel safe and secure in knowing that their freedoms are being protected, while they enjoy being packed into an event like sardines, all under the threat of being thrown out by security because you weren’t wearing your tightly fitted mask correctly. A mask by the way, that serves no purpose other than to actually get you sick because of the bacteria and germs you’ll be breathing in.

Is SDCC Still Worth It?
Is the San Diego Comic-Con worth the frustrations of having to stand in line for hours to get your health pass verified wristband and be under threat of being thrown out because of the ridiculous mask requirements? For some yes, for some no. SDCC is still the Mecca of all comic-cons, but are they asking too much of fans who already have a hard enough time navigating and getting to the con? Wouldn’t it be much better to just tell everyone to enjoy and have a good time, since the last couple of years kinda sucked because it was all virtual, instead of forcing mandates that everyone is tired of? Well, they can’t, because Gavin Newsom’s California requires these health safety protocols and mandates. Welcome to California.
