Meet the New Safe Punisher

The folks over at Marvel Comics have decided that the Punisher needs a new symbol.  The new symbol, which Marvel debuted Monday, is set to appear in a new 13 issue prestige format mini series entitled ‘Punisher’ in March of 2022.  The new symbol is being ridiculed on social media, and leaves a lot of us wondering what does it even stand for in the Punisher universe.  Would anyone even recognize a character with this new symbol and know that it was the Punisher?  Probably not.  Meet the new safe Punisher…he’s not as scary.  The Punisher, created by writer Gerry Conway and artist John Romita Sr., was created as an anti-hero that metes out justice where the law doesn’t or won’t.  The Punisher wore, a now iconic skull and crossbones on his chest, and became extremely popular in the 80’s thanks to writer Mike Baron.  The Punisher has also had a recent resurgence with an appearance in Netflix’s Daredevil and subsequent Punisher series.  The Punisher’s skull and crossbones symbol was a symbol of authority, protection, and hope, and depicted a character that helped those in need.  But, in today’s world of woke, it means lawless police oppression.  Just ask the Punisher’s co-creator Gerry Conway, he’ll tell you.

The Punisher Symbol is Too Controversial for the Left

The new limited series, written by Jason Aaron with art by Jesus Saiz and Paul Azaceta, will focus on Frank Castle’s journey from his beginnings to

present day, where we see Frank Castle working for The Hand.  The Hand is a ninja order that serves a demon referred to by members as the Beast.    This doesn’t seem like a Frank Castle Punisher type of story, but we shall see.  The new symbol is a combination of a skull, horns, the devil, and I don’t know what else…but looks ridiculous, and fans agree.  I haven’t read the Punisher for years, but I’m sure given Marvels tendencies in the last decade, it won’t make any sense at all and not fit in with who the character of Frank Castle is.  According to comic book.com, the classic Punisher skull and crossbones symbol is being rebranded because of “real world controversies over the last few years”.

Set to launch in March, the series will feature 13 oversized issues that run monthly, placing the finale out in April 2023. Saiz is set to draw the present-day journey of the character while Azaceta’s line art will be focused in the flashbacks. The series is also changing Castle’s iconic brand after its involvement in real-world controversies over the past few years.

The real world controversies they are referring to, are to those rioters on January 6th who wore the American flag and the Punisher logo, and to police and military in America who wear it as a symbol of strength.  It’s only controversial because the social media mob and radicals on the left deemed it so, so therefore it must be.

Gerry Conway is no Fan of the Police or Military

Gerry Conway, co-creator of the Punisher, adamantly believes that the symbol should not be worn by the police or military, and has been very vocal about it, stating that the Punisher’s symbol is representative of unlawfulness and shouldn’t be appropriated by the police or military.  Gerry Conway is no fan of the police himself and has expressed such opinions on Twitter.

Conway is a self described “libtard”, and if you go through his Twitter posts, you’ll see he’s 100% correct.  Mike baron, who revived the Punisher in the 80’s with iconic and popular storylines,  on the other hand, has been very vocal about his support of the Punisher character and his symbol.  He believes that military and police, brandishing the Punisher symbol, is a natural progression of the character and shows how people naturally want someone to protect them.

“Human nature doesn’t change.  The reason that the Punisher was popular, is the same reason that a Robin Hood or Paul Kersey (from Charles Bronson’s ‘Deathwish’) was popular. People always want a strong protector. It’s only in the hermetically sealed world of the “woke” that a strong protector is offensive.  I’m very happy and proud that our nation’s defenders use the logo and I encourage them to do so.”

I absolutely love Mike Baron’s response to this idiocy.

The Punisher Will be Race or Gender Swapped

It’s not surprising that Marvel Comics would acquiesce to pressures from insignificant twitter nuts.  They have been doing it for the last decade or so, whether it’s reactionary or proactively.  They have hired more and more activists to write their characters, to the point that no one is reading their garbage.  And yes, no one is reading.  Just look at the failed Captain Marvel, Iron Heart, Jane Foster Thor, Kate Bishop Hawkeye, Spider-Gwen, etc, etc. for example.  Fans are not clamoring for their legacy characters to be race and gender swapped.  Create new ones.  The writer of the new Punisher series, Jason Aaron, says that we will see the Punisher’s journey from being a kid to working with the Devil worshipping Hand.  Aaron says we will see a side of the Punisher that we’ve never seen before, ultimately leading to an inevitable evolution in the character.  I’m just taking an educated guess here, but I’m predicting that we’ll see Frank Castle turned into the villain the crazy left thinks he is, or he’ll be killed and race or gender swapped.  Marvel’s history is on my side.
