“Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow”. That’s Superman’s new motto according to DC comics’ chief creative officer and publisher Jim Lee who announced the new Motto at DC’s Fandome event. It feels like we keep writing about the destruction of the “American Way” in Superman’s motto every other week. Whether it’s “Truth, Tolerance, and Justice”(Yes…that’s a real motto used in Batman/Superman #16 from earlier this year), “Truth, Justice, and a Better World”, or “Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow”, it’s DC comics’ way of bending the knee to a social justice agenda and making Superman the social justice warrior for the entire planet. According to Jim Lee, the motto of “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” will be evolving into “Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow”. In classic progressive fashion, this new motto is labeled as Superman’s “mission statement”. According to a press statement from DC comics, the decision to change the motto is meant to reflect current global storylines running through all of DC comics and honor Superman’s 80 year legacy.(We all know one of the reasons is because of trademark issues)
“Superman’s new motto of ‘Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow’ will better reflect the global storylines that we are telling across DC and to honor the character’s incredible legacy of over 80 years of building a better world,” said DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee. “Superman has long been a symbol of hope who inspires people from around the world, and it is that optimism and hope that powers him forward with this new mission statement.”
What a crock. There would be no DC comics if it weren’t for the “American Way”. DC comics and the far left creatives, that have infiltrated DC comics, have been dismantling Superman’s core identity for the last decade. From making him denounce his American citizenship in issue 700 of Action Comics, protesting the police last year in an issue of Action Comics, to standing up and protesting “climate change” in upcoming issue #7 of ‘Superman: Son of Kal-El’, there has been a purposeful alienation of Superman’s Americanism in exchange for making him the social justice warrior for the entire planet
“Truth, Justice, and the American Way” Represents American Pride
Superman/Kal-El, fell to planet earth and landed in the small town of Smallville, Kansas. Taken in by Martha and Jonathan Kent, he was raised with American ideals and defended those ideals issue after issue since his creation in 1938. Granted the motto “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” wasn’t used until a few years later in radio serials supporting our troops during World War II, but it has been consistently used off and on since then. “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” represents an innate American pride in our nation and our accomplishments and Superman conveyed that sentiment through his actions. Whether it was to support our troops during WWII, support American ideals during the Cold War, or revived again when Christopher Reeve took up the mantle of Superman in ‘Superman: The Movie’, it has always been a part of Superman’s lexicon in one form or another.
Another Attention Grabber to Get Sales
Jim Lee and DC comics are just trying to get attention, once again, by changing something in a major character. Just like they did with turning the new Superman bi-sexual, making Robin bi-sexual, and the many characters that they’ve changed their core identity to, all to gain a moments attention. They have no creative ideas to sell us, so, instead, they will sell us an inflammatory message that divides a fanbase. They are hoping that this will get fans talking and hopefully gain some new audience. Attention they will get indeed, but I don’t think it will translate into sales for the die hard fans. For the collector that only collects comics for a potential profit from said “first appearance” of something new, there will probably be an increase in sales of that particular issue. For most fans, however, myself included, we are bored and tired of the rhetoric against a character that has symbolized American ideals for the past 80 years. So, we won’t be buying…thank you.
The American Way is an Example to the Rest of the World
The stunts to conform Superman into representing a social justice agenda is antithetical to everything Superman or any other superhero stands for. In the long run, all DC comics is doing, is turning their backs on fans of a character they once aspired to emulate, in favor of a minute in the spotlight. Superman has always been about action and solving problems…the American Way…not inaction through protesting and picketing…and especially not by standing tall through a globalist and “safe” message of a better tomorrow or world. The Superman character helped influence an entire world through great storytelling, by showing the world what the American Way looked like. If DC comics truly wanted Superman to fight for a better world or a better tomorrow, then they would write him in a way that has Superman fight all the ills of the world in one single handed swoop. Because, Superman could do that…through action, and no one could stop him. But, DC comics won’t do that because they know what the end result would be…a safer, more peaceful, boring world without any good stories to write because Superman made the world one entire safe space. Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster created a character that almost instantaneously became a symbol of America and American ideals. Every kid wanted to be just like Superman. There’s not one person on this planet who doesn’t know who Superman is and where he came from. Superman not fighting for the American Way solidifies DC comics’ allegiance to a social justice agenda that hates America and blames it for unfounded ills instead of thanking America for the opportunity they have had, to find a success that they couldn’t find anywhere else on the planet.
