It would seem the Russo brothers, who directed ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, agree with the fans when it comes to the handling of the recent incarnation of the MCU. In a video, on Tik Tok, Brandon Davis, of comicbook.com, insinuates that the current MCU is a clown show. He is seen with clown make up and drinking out of an Infinity Gauntlet mug with the caption “Everyone who thought the Infinity Stones were important.” written across the screen. The Russo brothers responded with a Tik Tok video of their own depicting them in clown face with the same caption scrolled across the screen as they both don actual Infinity Gauntlets. Both videos were allegedly in response to the first episode of ‘Loki’, where we see Loki escape the TVA(Time Variance Authority) and discover a drawer full of Infinity Stones. Loki then asks Hunter K-5E how the TVA has them and Hunter K-5E responds, “Oh, we actually got a lot of those. Yeah. Some of the guys use them as paperweights. Some of ’em.”
Kevin Feige Managed to Wipe Out the Significance of Thanos and the Infinity Stones
So, in the premier episode of ‘Loki’, Marvel and Kevin Feige managed to wipe out the very powerful Infinity Stones, nullify Thanos’ existence, and light a match to 12 years of story. You also find out in that first episode, that magic and elemental objects, like the Infinity Stones, don’t work in the TVA, though it’s never explained as to why. The Russo brothers are obviously pointing out that over a decade of movies leading up to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ were of no significance. The Infinity Stones were the foundation to what ultimately led to Thanos acquiring them and then successfully snapping half the universe out of existence. But apparently to Kevin Feige, the patriarchy was much too powerful and representation needed to come in and save the day.
Powerful Male Characters Need Not Apply
I have mentioned this in previous articles, but Kevin Feige’s goal, from the very first ‘Avengers’ movie and on, was to get more representation in the MCU. From 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel’, Kevin Feige has managed to systematically remove all strong white male leads from the MCU. Loki was made gender fluid, even though it never existed in the comic books, in the Disney plus series ‘Loki’. Captain America was replaced by Sam Wilson AKA The Falcon in the Disney Plus series ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’. In episode two, they made Sam Wilson’s character into a victim as he is pulled over by cops because he’s black. Pulled over by cops who don’t know he’s Sam Wilson and have to be reminded by the white Winter Soldier. I mean, he’s only one of the Avengers who helped save the entire universe and who’s face was also plastered all over the news because he was a wanted man in ‘Civil War’…but those are just details, right? The MCU couldn’t have been playing the race card there could they? Dr. Strange was pulled from the Disney Plus series WandaVision because he was, to quote Kevin Feige, “a powerful white guy” that would have over powered Wanda. Thor is being replaced by Jane Foster in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. Hawkeye is being replaced by Kate Bishop in the Disney Plus series ‘Hawkeye’. Iron Man will be replaced by Iron Heart and race swapped as well as gender swapped. Ant-Man has been made a farce in his own movie beginning with 2018’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ and will be all but eliminated in the third installment. Then we have Black Widow whose main antagonist, Taskmaster, was replaced by a woman in ‘Black Widow’. Taskmaster has never been a woman but Kevin Feige thought it would be cool to try and fool us all in the movie and wait until the end for the big reveal. ‘The Eternals’, which comes out next month, will be chock filled with LGBTQ characters and representation that you think would quench Kevin Feige’s palette. But wait, there’s more. Next year, when ‘Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ comes out, Dr. Strange will be killed off and Wanda(Scarlett Witch) is rumored to take over as sorcerer supreme. The sequel to ‘Captain Marvel’ entitled ‘The Marvels’ will feature an all female cast of Captain Marvels headed by one Monica Rambeau from ‘WandaVision’.
Marvel is Purposely Ignoring Great Stories, Heroes, and Villains
Are you just as excited as I am for the next five years of bore and representation as I am? It really is sad, that Kevin Feige and the MCU are so focused on representation instead of great storytelling. There’s a plethora of great stories, villains, and heroes in the Marvel comic book universe, that it is a crime that it is being warped and manipulated to fit a political narrative. A political narrative, that for most fans doesn’t exist, and ultimately finds themselves scratching their heads and walking away. The good news, and this is just a glimmer of hope, is that Bob Chapek is not happy with where Kevin Feige and Marvel are going as well. That’s just the rumored news I hear, so take that with a grain of salt, but…if Kevin Feige and Marvel continue to bleed money at the box office, it might not be too long before we see a change in course. But, when you have directors like the Russo Brothers condemning the farce you are making of the MCU, and calling it a clown show, I wouldn’t be too proud of the representation trophy you won.
