When I heard last week that DC comics was going to turn Superman gay, I was not surprised in the least. I mean, why not, really…because DC is practically turning every one of their white male superheroes gay, bi-sexual or something to appease a crowd that doesn’t even read the comic books. Superman gay…and? Am I supposed to start frothing at the mouth in rage? Does any true fan really care at this point anymore? Ethan Van Sciver, creator of CyberFrog and former artist for DC comics, told us last week on his YouTube channel, ComicArtistPro Secrets, that Superman was going to be gay. Van Sciver made this claim via a leak from contacts that Van Sciver says he still has within the bowels of DC comics. It turns out that Van Sciver is probably right and we will indeed find out that Superman is gay in a future issue of ‘Superman: Son of Kal-El’. In a great article over at RT.com, Van Sciver addressed the rumor by stating that by leaking the news he might have altered the course of Superman’s sexual identity.
“I have a source within DC Comics who is aware of the project and notified me about it in exasperation,” Van Sciver said when reached for comment about the rumor. “I’m told it’s a few issues away. I’m confident in my source, but perhaps by leaking the news, I may have altered the course of Jonathan Kent’s sexual identity. We’ll see!”
Van Sciver went on to assert that there is probably trademark issues that DC is concerned about so that is why they are constantly changing the characters appearance etc…
“DC is quietly in constant negotiation with the families of the creators of their golden age IPs, as trademarks expire and return to their hands. This is a taboo discussion for DC employees and creators, but ‘Superman’ is always undergoing minor changes to his appearance. His ‘S’ logo is always being updated, etc., New versions of ‘Superman’ are always being offered to maintain the rights to create ‘Superman’ comics, product and media. This Jonathan Kent character might be a part of that effort.”
Everyone Knows What Superman Represents
Superman is one of the most recognizable symbols of American greatness and the constant degradation of Superman from SJW’s, at DC comics, is an outrage and evil in its purest form. From Superman denouncing his American citizenship, labeling him as an undocumented immigrant, to changing the iconic saying of “Truth, Justice, and the American Way!” to “Truth, Justice, and a better World!”, is an evil propaganda pitch that falls on deaf ears and alienates true fans.
Do the True Fans Really Care at This Point?
I am just one fan, but I am a fan…and I have a lot to say on this subject because I’m passionate about it. Comic books helped me through some very difficult times in my life, so I am grateful. So what DC is doing to these established characters, that I grew up loving, is unforgivable. I stopped collecting new DC comic books almost a year ago. Batman has turned into a simpering soap opera, the Batman family is coming out as gay and bi-sexual, Batman’s son Damian(the new Robin) is now fighting the “man” and climate change, Wonder Woman is queer, Alan Scott green lantern is gay, and Superman is being replaced by his son Jonathan who is now going to come out as gay. The fans are so over it that we just don’t care anymore. What DC comics has done is turn the die hard fan off so much, that they have turned to collecting back issues to get their escapism and entertainment. Or, better yet, have turned to those creators like Ethan Van Sciver, Jon Malin, Aaron Lopestri, Graham Nolan, and Andy Smith to get their no holds barred fun. The fans are spending their money elsewhere and DC comics, utilizing cute, identity politics gimmicks, is not fooling anyone. DC is trying to remain relevant to a fanbase that doesn’t exist. What DC is getting in return for their efforts, though, is just two minutes of fame from an ever thankful mainstream media and the Twitter mob. As a result, we the fans get a garbage comic book that preaches to us and costs $6.99.
DC Comics Will Fail and No One Will Care
DC comics, it would seem, does not care about making money and is only in the business of kowtowing to an unapologetic audience of soap box preachers. It is amazing to me how a company that has probably the best arsenal of superheroes in the comic book industry, bends the knee to a bunch of cry babies, stomping their feet, demanding that DC comics capitulate and fight for their cause. DC, in my opinion, will continue to stoke that SJW fire, until all that’s left is an ember of what was once a great and mighty behemoth in the comic book industry. Sanity has left the building and unfortunately, DC comics will be left standing in a world of their own scratching their heads wondering what happened.
