Tim Tebow has white privilege? Well, according to actor Steven Pasquale he does. It has been reported that Tim Tebow is in the process of signing a 1 year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars to play tight end. Steven Pasquale disagrees with this as well as some of his followers. You can follow the thread here.
But for the most part the response has been positive for Tebow and just shows how ignorant some people can be. Most of the response has been how dedicated Tim Tebow is or what a positive influence he has been and will be in the locker room. As compared to Colin Kaepernick who only cares about himself. A few years ago, Kaepernick was offered a tryout at the Atlanta Falcons facilities but refused to play by the rules and had crazy demands around the tryout itself. Ultimately, Kaepernick didn’t even show up for the tryout and squandered a chance to get back into the NFL. Tim Tebow on the other hand will sign for league minimum because he cares about the team, has respect for the players around him, and will put 150% effort into his gameplay no mater the outcome.
Brandon Spikes Comes to Tim Tebow’s Defense
Former teammate Brandon Spikes, who played college football with Tebow for the Florida Gators, came to his defense suffering backlash of his own.
Spikes then followed with this tweet as soon as people started calling the race card:
Tim Tebow getting signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars for 1 year as a tight end has nothing to do with race and has everything to do with passion. Tim Tebow, whether he succeeds or fails always puts a 100% focus and passion into whatever he does. He is a great, responsible role model for young athletes and everyone should stop comparing him to Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has had as much opportunity to prove that he wants back in the NFL but has decided that the attention and lucrative million dollar contracts were more important. If that’s the case then more power to him. He is entitled to go after that because this is America and you have the CHOICE to do that.
The Twitter Mobs Reacting Again
It’s easy for people to scream on twitter from their armchairs about how racist a decision this was because it’s all about the emotional reaction, isn’t it? I read a tweet in response to Brandon Spikes position on this that said the NFL needs to give more black people the opportunity to play rather than a white person. Have you done your homework? 75% of the NFL is black. I’ve never seen or heard someone who is white complain about that. But, apparently Steven Pasquale has a problem with it and instead of congratulating Tebow felt like he needed to disparage his opportunity through the lens of racism. I haven’t heard Steven Pasquale complain about his own white fragility in Hollywood. In fact, I’ve never even heard of Steven Pasquale before I read his tweet. It’s all about the talent, passion, and drive. So, does Tim Tebow have white privilege? No, but what Tim Tebow does have is the passion and the drive, we will see if he has the talent and then make our judgements.
